Autumnal Beauty

Short one today, even though it’s been a while!

I was planning out my week and looking at the weather app to check out the chances of a decent days sun. There nestled in a row of grey clouds and raindrops was a single beautiful bright sun, so the date was set.

I wanted to try and capture some of the autumn colours as the trees develop and start to lose their leaves.

Every year I get to the end of autumn and think to my self “I must remember. that the trees all change and shed at different times!” and then at the start of Autumn the next year i’m once again lamenting that one tree type is resplendent in reds and yellows whilst the rest stubbornly maintain their cheerful green facade.

Never the less I was there long before sunrise at a local woods, having an explore and looking to maximise the morning sun when it finally got there (Spoiler, I probably didn’t!).

When the sun did poke up and cast glorious golden rays all over, I was puffing half way up a hill in a dense woodland of 30 - 40 ft trees….. hardly ideal but I started snapping.

One thing I relish about these sorts of mornings is that I just went with what I likes the look of and had no clear image in mind - not always the best approach but wonderful today.

I was n a relatively new woods so was exploring different paths and tracks until I came out on a field and saw a trail leading up.

As I crested the hill I was met by an amazing view of Durham and the cathedral so decided on a 10 shot panoramic - and here it is in all its glory:

Durham Cathedral and the castle with the autumnal woods in front.

I need to do some more edits on it to produce it as a print for sale, clean a few things up, but it was such a wonderful vantage point! This was a collection of 10 shots at f9.0, ISO 200 and 160mm.

I took a few more different images, trying to find decent woodland compositions which is always a struggle. I have put a small gallery below for you to have a look at.

Thanks for reading!
